Alanna Jankov declares councillor candidacy for Ward 1
Political newcomer cites transparency at City Hall among top priorities for November civic election
Charlottetown – Accomplished cultural leader and visual artist Alanna Jankov announced today her intention to seek election for Council in the City’s Ward 1 in the upcoming municipal election.
Jankov is a longtime resident of Charlottetown, has long been a persistent advocate for small business and the arts and culture world in the city.
An intelligent entrepreneur, the experience Alanna gained through her successful visual communications business equipped her with the skillset to assume her current role as Executive Director of The Guild – a role at which she has excelled for the past six years.
Jankov has been honoured with several awards, including the “Distinguished Alumni Award” from Holland College, the “Cultural Industry Award” from the City of Charlottetown, and the “President’s Excellence Award” from Downtown Charlottetown Inc.
“I am so lucky to call Charlottetown my home,” Jankov said. “The vibrancy and diversity in a City that still has that ‘small town feel’ is part of why I want to represent downtown residents on Council. Charlottetown has the capability to become the arts and culture hub of Atlantic Canada. It’s also a fantastic place to do business. I want to be part of local governance so I can work to continue fostering this diversified success in the Birthplace of Confederation.”
Jankov lives and works in the heart of Charlottetown, and cares about the City and its future. An authentic voice, she will operate within City Council with the utmost transparency. She will listen to residents’ concerns and will work to provide timely answers to questions residents in Ward 1 may have.
Alanna holds key positions on volunteer boards within the City, including the Women’s Network of PEI, the PEI Family Violence Prevention Service, Music PEI, and CARFAC (Canadian Artists Representation).
Her passion for a variety of social justice issues carries into her vision for City Council – Jankov will work hard to develop more creative affordable housing options for people who want to live in Charlottetown’s downtown core, while maintaining the heritage integrity of the City’s various neighbourhoods.
An avid runner and yoga enthusiast, Jankov, the mother of two adult children, lives in a century home with her fiancé , Steven McLean, and their two dogs.
